NHL: Week 22 Power Rankings

1. Washington Capitals 49-13-5

Their impressive victory over the red hot Ducks reconfirmed their spot on the top of these rankings. They have won four of their six games in March, and are only one win away from reaching the 50 win mark.

2. Dallas Stars 41-20-8

They were able to maintain their lead over the Western Conference with a victory over the defending Stanley Cup winning Chicago Blackhawks. Jamie Benn was the star of the game, scoring a goal and an assist. He has five points and is still second in the NHL in points.

3. St. Louis Blues 40-20-9

The red hot Blues are on a five game winning streak, which includes victories over Chicago and Anaheim. Vladimir Tarasenko has been dynamite for the Blues over the month of March, scoring three goals and five points in only four games.

4. Chicago Blackhawks 41-22-6

The Blackhawks came close to falling out of the top five after losses to St. Louis and Dallas. Patrick Kane was held pointless in both contests, and the Blackhawks are hoping that he can snap out of his recent funk in time to face the Kings.

5. New York Rangers 39-22-7

The Rangers haven’t reaped the rewards of grabbing Eric Staal yet, winning only three out of their five games played with Staal. He has only scored in one of those games, and that was a 6-4 loss to the Islanders.

6. Boston Bruins 39-23-8

The Bruins have gotten back into the top 10 after they won five out of their seven games in March. Brad Marchand is third in the NHL with 34 goals, and has been lighting up the lamp at a much higher rate that we are used to this year.

7. Los Angeles Kings 40-22-4

Jeff Carter is off to a fantastic start to March, with three goals and five points in only four games. He is an important contributor to the Kings, as he is second on the team in points with 47.

8. Florida Panthers 37-21-9

The Panthers ended their recent slump with a 6-2 victory over the Senators. Legend Jaromir Jagr continued his impressive season, scoring two goals in the contest. Interesting fact, 17 of Jagr’s 23 goals have come on home ice.

9. Anaheim Ducks 37-21-9

The Ducks have yet to recover from their 11 game winning streak, losing their last three. They gave up their lead over the Pacific Division to the Kings, but are still in the middle of the race.

10. Tampa Bay Lightning 39-24-5

Their two losses to the Flyers almost knocked them out of the top 10 in these rankings. They are still looking for their 40th win.

11. New York Islanders 37-21-8

The Islanders are keeping pace with the Capitals and Rangers in the Metropolitan Division, winning four out of their six March games.

12. Nashville Predators 34-21-13

Filip Forsberg has been having a good start to March, scoring two goals and notching six points in his five games in the month. The team has also been impressive in March, winning three of their five games.

13. San Jose Sharks 37-24-6

With three wins in their last five games, the Sharks are maintaining their place in the Pacific Division.

14. Detroit Red Wings 34-23-11

Their overtime win over the Rangers was big for a team hanging onto their wild card spot for dear life. Their 22nd ranked offense isn’t helping their chances.

15. Pittsburgh Penguins 35-24-8

With Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin back to their old ways, the Penguins are once again a playoff team.

16. Philadelphia Flyers 32-23-11

Winning five out of their six games on their recent homestand has gotten the Flyers back into the playoff mix.

17. Colorado Avalanche 35-21-13

The Avalanche are barely hanging onto their final spot in the playoff race. The main problem is their underachieving offense, which is ranked 15th in the league.

18. Minnesota Wild 31-27-10

The Wild are a playoff caliber team, but are just stuck in the tough Central Division. They have played well recently against playoff caliber teams in Washington, Florida, Colorado and St. Louis.

19. Carolina Hurricanes 31-26-12

The Hurricanes join a plethora of middle of the road teams that have won three out of their last five games. The loss of Eric Staal hasn't seemed to of catched up to them yet.

20. New Jersey Devils 32-29-7

The Devils fall farther behind their Metropolitan rivals, losing against Carolina and Pittsburgh.

21. Ottawa Senators 31-30-8

With only one win so far in the month of March, the Senators are drifting further and further into the bottom ten.

22. Montreal Canadiens 32-30-6

It wasn't bad enough for the Canadiens that they are without Carey Price, they now have to deal with losing P.K. Subban for an extended period of time.

23. Vancouver Canucks 26-28-12

The Canucks showed us flashes of brilliance with a big win over Pacific rival San Jose, but they haven’t had enough of them this season to keep up with the leaders in the Pacific.

24. Arizona Coyotes 29-32-7

The Coyotes picked up an impressive victory over Florida, but the problem is that win came after a disastrous seven game losing streak.

25. Buffalo Sabres 28-33-9

The Sabres get out of the bottom five thanks to their victories over Toronto and Carolina.

26. Columbus Blue Jackets 28-32-8

The Blue Jackets loss to the Penguins gets them right back into the bottom five they have been inhabiting for the majority of the season.

27. Calgary Flames 28-25-5

With only two wins in their last ten games, their once promising playoffs hopes have been dashed.

28. Winnipeg Jets 27-35-5

Also with only two wins in their last ten games, the Jets are getting beaten up in a tough Central Divison.

29. Edmonton Oilers 27-36-7

The Oilers impressive start to March gets them out of the bottom spot this week. If they keep winning four out of every six games like they have been in March, they will continue to move up in the rankings.

30. Toronto Maple Leafs 22-33-11

Their victory over the Islanders snapped a terrible seven game losing streak. The Maple Leafs season has just gone from bad to worse as they struggle to find consistency in all aspects of their game.
