Top Five Dallas Stars Fantasy Options

After bowing out in the first round of the 2013-14 Stanley Cup playoffs at the hands of a superior Anaheim Ducks team, the Dallas Stars were left hungry for more. Heading into the 2014-15 season it very much apparent that the Stars shouldn’t have any problem making their mark by making the playoffs in a very balanced Western Conference. With the help of their household names along with those that were signed to contract extensions or signed via free agency, the Stars will have no shortage of contributors on the score sheet. Here’s a look at the top five fantasy hockey options on the Stars roster.

5. Valeri Nichushkin, Right Wing

Nichushkin may not be the first member of the Stars that you will have your eye on, but you may as well consider nabbing him sooner than you think. Not only the right winger finish sixth among in his teammates in scoring with a total of 34 points in 79 games played, he finished a second best +20. Every fantasy team needs at least one player to help pad their stats in the +/- column. Nichushkin is a sleeper that your team would benefit from more ways than one.

4. Ryan Garbutt, Left Wing

When the Stars signed Garbutt to a contract extension earlier this spring, they knew they were inking a star-studded player in the making. Making sure they were going to keep Garbutt, along with resigning his linemate in Antoine Roussel, now solidifies a second dynamic duo on a club that is poised to make a deep run in next season’s playoffs. Garbutt is a durable player that should play every night, improving his 32 point performance in 2013-14 to perhaps even a 50 point performance in 2014-15. The sky is the limit for this second-line stud.

3. Jason Spezza, Center

Now that he finds himself on a much more talented team heading into next season, this former 90-point getter will have the ability to regain some of the firepower he has displayed in the past. After missing all but five games in 2012-13, Spezza regained his stride last season earning a total of 66 points. His offensive numbers should improve greatly as he will undoubtedly get a good amount of time on the Stars’ powerplay alongside some of their top talent.

2. Tyler Seguin, Center

Seguin is well on his way to becoming one of the game’s most complete players. This top line center has the ability to contribute by scoring goals, racking up assists, and by playing well on the defensive end of the ice as well. After scoring 11 powerplay goals in 2013-14 along with eight game winners, Seguin’s numbers will surely be on the rise this coming season. Get him on your fantasy team as soon as you can.

1. Jamie Benn, Left Wing

Benn is perhaps one of the most impressive and consistent hockey players in the NHL today. After playing in all but one game and finishing second behind only Seguin in team scoring with 79 points, Benn’s career is beginning to take off in a very big way. Benn has the ability to make anyone and everyone that plays around him a way better hockey player. With the additions the Stars made, assists will be plentiful and goals will be had for Benn. Make him a top priority on your fantasy hockey wish-list come draft day.
