Bobcats 96, Bucks 95
D.J. Augustin scored 19 points and Gerald Henderson added 18 to help the Charlotte Bobcats to a 96-95 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Bucks on Monday.
Augustin’s driving basket with 36.5 seconds left gave Charlotte the lead for good in the season-opening contest for both teams.
Brandon Jennings scored 22 points and Andrew Bogut added 17 for Milwaukee.
Charlotte overcame a 14-point, third-quarter deficit to take an 89-81 lead before encountering some anxious moments.
Jennings hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Mike Dunleavy followed with another 3 to give the Bucks a 90-89 lead with 1:20 remaining.
The Bucks trailed by two when Dunleavy missed a 3-pointer with 11.9 seconds left. Charlotte’s Kemba Walker, who scored 13 points in his NBA debut, hit two free throws with 9.9 ticks to make it a two-possession game.
The Bobcats trailed 59-45 early in the third quarter before going on a period-ending 26-7 run. Charlotte tallied the final 13 points of the quarter and had 11 offensive rebounds in the period.
Milwaukee’s Stephen Jackson had a forgettable night in his return to Charlotte, the team that traded him to the Bucks in a draft-night trade. Jackson had just six points in 17 minutes before fouling out.
