Zach Randolph scored 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting and added eight rebounds as visiting Memphis held off Phoenix.
Rudy Gay scored 20 points and Marc Gasol collected 10 and 12 boards for the Grizzlies, who have taken two of three from the Suns this season. Memphis won for just the third time in its last seven games.
P.J. Tucker scored 17 points and Marcin Gortat chipped in 12 and eight rebounds as Phoenix fell for the eighth time in the last nine games.
The Suns were within 41-38 at halftime but began to let the Grizzlies pull away in the third quarter. Gay scored six points during a 10-4 run to open the period and Darrell Arthur’s 3-pointer stretched the lead to 12 before Memphis settled for a 71-62 gap to begin the fourth.
Phoenix pulled to within six on Markieff Morris’ three-point play opening the final quarter but managed only one field goal over the next 7:27 as the Grizzlies pulled away. Jerryd Bayless’ 3-pointer made it an 84-70 lead with 3:35 left and Memphis sealed it at the free throw line.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Suns, who own the second-worst record in the Western Conference (12-23), begin a four-game road trip at Milwaukee on Tuesday. … Phoenix shot 39.2 percent from the field and was outrebounded 42-32. … The Grizzlies have held each of their last five opponents under 90 points.
