Mike Conley scored 23 points and Beno Udrih added 16 as Memphis defeated visiting Los Angeles.
Courtney Lee added 15 points and Kosta Koufos scored 14 as the Grizzlies won their 17th consecutive home contest. Tony Allen had 12 points and Zach Randolph contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds as Memphis improved to 7-1, tied with Toronto for the best mark in the NBA.
Kobe Bryant had 28 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Lakers, who have dropped six of seven games this season. Carlos Boozer had 20 points and eight rebounds, Wesley Johnson tallied 15 points and Jordan Hill had 13 points and 14 rebounds.
The Lakers trailed by nine with just over nine minutes to play when the Grizzlies rolled off a 10-2 run to open up a 101-84 edge with 6:50 to play. Los Angeles answered with an 18-4 burst to get within 105-102 with 37.1 seconds left but Memphis put it away on Randolph’s basket with 5.2 seconds remaining.
The Grizzlies led by as many as 12 in the second quarter before settling for a 56-52 halftime lead. The Lakers tied the score at 64 on Jeremy Lin’s hoop with 6:26 left in the third quarter before Memphis went on a 14-4 surge and eventually took an 83-75 advantage into the final stanza.
