Marc Gasol recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds as Memphis turned back New Orleans to win its franchise-record 16th consecutive regular-season home game.
Zach Randolph collected 15 points and 11 rebounds while Tony Allen had 12 points and matched his career-best with 11 rebounds as the Grizzlies improved to 4-0 for the first time in team history. Tayshaun Prince registered 14 points and Mike Conley added 11 for Memphis.
Tyreke Evans led the way with 21 points while Anthony Davis recorded 14 points and eight rebounds for the Pelicans, who shot 33.7 percent from the field and made 4-of-24 from 3-point range. Eric Gordon contributed 11 points and backcourt mate Jrue Holiday had 10 for New Orleans.
Beno Udrih scored five during a 7-0 run late in the second quarter to give Memphis a 10-point lead and the Grizzlies settled for a 40-33 edge at intermission. New Orleans rallied to take its only lead 45-44 early in the third, but Memphis answered with 12 in a row later in the period – 10 by Gasol – and led 64-56 going to the fourth.
The Pelicans pulled within 69-66 on a dunk by Davis before the Grizzlies scored seven of the next nine, capped by a jumper and a fast break slam by Prince with 6:13 to go. A nifty backdoor feed from Randolph to Allen for a layup and two free throws by Gasol pushed the lead to 85-75 and Memphis was on its way.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Memphis topped the previous record of 15 straight regular-season home wins from March 18 to Nov. 16, 2012. … New Orleans F John Salmons missed the game to be with his wife for the birth of their child and Memphis G Courtney Lee sat out his second straight contest with a concussion. … Randolph has registered double-doubles in all four games this season.
