Kings 116, Suns 94
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Rajon Rondo put his name in the Sacramento Kings' record book in a rare blowout win for the home team. DeMarcus Cousins just missed doing the same.
Rondo finished with 12 assists, setting Sacramento's single-season mark along the way, and Cousins collected 29 points and 11 rebounds in a 116-94 victory over the Phoenix Suns at Sleep Train Arena that snapped the Kings' longest home losing streak in eight seasons.
Rondo, the NBA assists leader at 11.9 per game, moved past guard Reggie Theus for the most single-season assists in Sacramento history by recording his 789th in the third quarter. With 10 games left, he has 795. Theus set the old mark (788) in 1985-86, the Kings' first season in Sacramento.
Cousins fell a point shy of recording his 26th 30-point contest of the season, a mark that would tie Hall of Famer Mitch Richmond's 1996-97 total for the most in any season in Sacramento history. Cousins did not play the fourth quarter.
Cousins needs to score 30 points and pull 10 rebounds in two of Sacramento's final 10 games to tie Chris Webber's Sacramento single-season mark for the most 30-points/10-rebound games.
Center Willie Cauley-Stein added a career-high 26 points, and forward Rudy Gay scored 15 points as Sacramento ended a seven-game home slide, their longest since November 2008. The Kings took control with a 14-4 run to end the first half.
Sacramento (28-44), allowing an NBA-worst 109.0 points per game, limited the Suns to only 67 points after the first quarter. The Kings outscored the Suns by a combined 45 points in winning both of their contests against them at home.
Forward Quincy Acy scored 14 points, guard Seth Curry added 12 points, and guard Darren Collision had 11 for Sacramento.
Rookie Devin Booker scored 21 points to pace the Suns (20-52), his fourth straight double-digit scoring game. But he also had a season-worst nine assists, eight of them coming before halftime.
Mirza Teletovic added 12 points off the bench but made just five of 16 shots from the field. Teletovic, who already has broken Danny Ainge's single-season mark for 3-pointers for Phoenix, was just 2-for-9 behind the arc.
The Suns lost for just the eighth time in 14 games following a 2-30 mark that derailed their season.
NOTES: Back spasms kept Suns C Tyson Chandler on the sidelines for the second straight contest. The absence ensured he will play fewer than 70 games for the second straight season and for the fifth time in the past six. ... Kings C DeMarcus Cousins, the NBA's technical foul leader with 15, entered Friday without a technical foul in seven straight games. Cousins, who has led the NBA in technical fouls in three of his first five seasons, receives a one-game suspension if he's slapped with another one. ... Suns G Devin Booker trails only Minnesota C Karl-Anthony Towns in scoring among NBA rookies during March. Booker averaged 21.9 points and 5.5 assists in March entering Friday's game, the latter figure also second among rookies. ... How bad have both the Suns and Kings been on defense? Phoenix surrendered at least 110 points in 27 of its first 71 games, and the Kings did the same in 35 of their 71. They rate 29th and last, respectively, in the NBA in that department.
