Jets beat Canucks for second straight win

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Tyler Myers scored a short-handed goal and goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 on Thursday night.

Nikolaj Ehlers, Josh Morrissey and Patrik Laine also scored for the Jets (2-2-0), who won their second consecutive game. Bryan Little had two assists.

Daniel Sedin and Chris Tanev scored for the Canucks (1-1-1). Rookie Brock Boeser collected an assist in his first NHL game.

Hellebuyck was making his second straight start after stopping 37 shots in Winnipeg's 5-2 victory over Edmonton on Monday.

Canucks goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped 16 shots.

Sedin opened the scoring on a power play at 7:25 of the first period. Boeser took a shot from the point that Hellebuyck stopped, but Sedin pounced on the rebound and flipped it into the net.

The Jets tied the game at 9:04 when Morrissey's shot deflected off Michael Del Zotto's skate and past Markstrom.

Winnipeg was outshot 12-6 in the second period but still scored twice to take a 3-1 lead into the third.

Laine broke a 1-1 tie at 15:31. Little carried the puck into the corner, circled, then passed to Laine in the slot. He used Del Zotto as a screen and beat Markstrom with a low shot to the glove side.

Myers scored a little over three minutes later at 18:44 with Blake Wheeler off for hooking. Andrew Copp scooped up a loose puck in the Winnipeg zone and took it down the ice. He fed Myers on the opposite wing who fired a high, hard shot over Markstrom's shoulder.

It was Winnipeg's second short-handed goal of the season.

Tanev made it 3-2 as 12:43 of the third period when his shot from just inside the blue line seemed to float over Hellebuyck's glove. It was the second goal in as many games for the Canucks defenseman.

Ehlers added an empty-netter, his fourth goal of the season, with five seconds left.
