Bailey nets OT winner as Islanders defeat Flyers
NEW YORK -- Josh Bailey scored 32 seconds into overtime Wednesday night as the New York Islanders edged the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 at Barclays Center.
Bailey put back his own rebound as the Islanders (12-7-2) won for the fourth time in five games (4-1-0). Mathew Barzal, Johnny Boychuk and Josh Ho-Sang also scored for New York while goalie Thomas Greiss made 35 saves.
Taylor Leier, Michael Raffl and Jakub Voracek also scored for the Flyers (8-9-5), who have lost six straight (0-3-3). Goalie Brian Elliott recorded 35 saves.
The Flyers took the lead 6:02 into the first, when a shot by Travis Sanheim ticked off the stick of Leier and trickled into the net.
The Islanders tied the game with a five-on-three goal with 1:47 left in the period. Barzal took a cross-ice pass from Bailey and fired home a shot that ricocheted so hard into the back of the net that Bailey appeared to be the last person on the ice to realize he scored.
The Flyers took the lead just 46 seconds into the second, when Raffl got open on a breakaway and scored when his shot bounced off the left post and off the back of Greiss' skate.
The Islanders scored another power-play goal to tie the score again at 7:13, when Boychuk took a Bailey pass and beat Elliott with a slap shot.
Anthony Beauvillier's win off a faceoff deep in the Islanders zone led to Ho-Sang's go-ahead goal with 8:55 remaining. The puck bounced to Adam Pelech, whose shot from the left faceoff circle was jabbed into the net by Ho-Sang.
The Flyers tied the score on a power-play goal of their own with 6:06 to go when Voracek took a backhanded tap pass from Wayne Simmonds and fired a shot off the post and past Greiss.
