Allen, Blues shut down Stars
ST. LOUIS -- Jake Allen stopped 29 shots, and the St. Louis Blues got power-play goals from Brayden Schenn and Colton Parayko in a 3-0 win over the Dallas Stars on Thursday night.
Vladimir Tarasenko's empty-net goal capped the scoring.
Allen recorded his first shutout of the season and 16th of his career to extend the Blues' home winning streak over the Stars to seven consecutive games in the regular season. It was Allen's third career shutout in 11 games against the Stars.
Schenn, who had a hat trick in the Blues' last game on Tuesday night at Montreal, put St. Louis ahead at 13:39 of the first period. He poked the rebound of a shot by Dmitrij Jaskin past goalie Kari Lehtonen. The goal was Schenn's 14th of the year and allowed him to break a tie with Jaden Schwartz for the team lead.
The goal came while the Stars' Alexander Radulov was serving a high-sticking penalty.
The Stars were called for six minor penalties in the first two periods but managed to kill off the other five, including 1:14 of a five-on-three advantage for the Blues, to keep it a 1-0 game. The Blues were whistled for only two penalties, one in the closing seconds of the game.
Another penalty against the Stars, on Brett Ritchie, their fourth high-sticking penalty of the game, led to the goal by Parayko at 5:01 of the third period.
Tarasenko ended a six-game scoring drought by collecting his 13th goal of the season with 48 seconds to play.
The Blues improved to 15-0 when leading after two periods.
The Stars thought they tied the game at 1 right at the end of the second period, but a video review confirmed that the puck went in the net after time expired.
It was the second shutout loss of the season for the Stars, who had won five consecutive games before losing to Nashville on Tuesday night.
NOTES: Both teams recalled goalies to serve as backups for the game because of injuries. Dallas G Ben Bishop did not make the trip to St. Louis because of a sore back, so the Stars recalled St. Louis native Mike McKenna. The Blues brought up Ville Husso from San Antonio of the AHL after Carter Hutton sustained a lower-body injury. Local G Tyler Stewart signed an amateur tryout agreement with St. Louis and participated in warm-ups while Husso was en route from San Antonio, arriving in the middle of the first period. ... The Blues also assigned RW Sammy Blais to San Antonio. ... The Blues play at Detroit on Saturday while the Stars return home to play the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday.
