Stars 4, Devils 3 (OT)

Loui Eriksson scored his second goal of the game at 1:36 of overtime, lifting the Dallas Stars to a 4-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday in the season opener for both teams.

Brad Richards had a goal and an assist while captain Brenden Morrow also scored for the Stars, who had gone 0-1-2 in their previous three season openers.

On a 2-on-1, Eriksson carried the puck down the right wing and wristed a shot over the left shoulder of Martin Brodeur for the game-winner.

Travis Zajac opened the scoring just 2:45 into the game and Zach Parise doubled New Jersey's lead at 7:13. Ilya Kovalchuk, who signed a 15-year, $100 million contract over the summer, assisted on both goals.

Dallas pulled even on goals by Morrow midway through the first and Eriksson three minutes into the second.

Returning for his second stint with the Devils, Jason Arnott converted a power-play chance with 9:38 left in the session, one-timing a shot from the right point past Kari Lehtonen for a 3-2 edge. But Richards scored 76 seconds later to again knot the contest.

Lehtonen made 27 saves and James Neal had two assists for Dallas, which had been shut out in each of its previous two visits to New Jersey.

Brodeur stopped 24 shots for the Devils, who had won five in a row against the Stars.
