Hurricanes 4, Thrashers 3 (OT)
Erik Cole's goal 2:09 into overtime lifted the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-3 win over the visiting Atlanta Thrashers on Sunday afternoon.
Cole beat Thrashers netminder Ondrej Pavelec for his 11th goal of the season and third in the last two games. The Thrashers forced extra time on Bryan Little's second goal of the game midway through the third period.
Tuomo Ruutu, Jeff Skinner and Zac Dalpe also scored while Justin Peters stopped 25 shots for the Hurricanes, who have points in seven straight games (5-0-2) to move within four points of the Thrashers for third place in the Southeast Division. Carolina has four games in hand.
Niclas Bergfors had a second-period goal for the Thrashers, who have lost two straight. Pavelec made 30 saves in defeat.
The road team had won the previous seven games in the head-to-head series dating back to Feb. 2009.
