Senators 6, Islanders 4
Milan Michalek, Chris Kelly and Jesse Winchester each recorded a goal and an assist and rookie Robin Lehner made 20 saves in his first NHL win as the visiting Ottawa Senators downed the New York Islanders 6-4 on Thursday.
Daniel Alfredsson, Nick Foligno, and Zack Smith also scored for the Senators, who snapped a six-game losing streak.
After Alfredsson and Winchester sandwiched goals around Trevor Gilles’ first of the season for New York in the opening period, Ottawa exploded with four goals in the second session.
Michalek scored his ninth while the Senators were shorthanded but Blake Comeau answered with his 12th at the 10:31 mark. Kelly, Foligno and Smith then scored in less than a four-minute span to send Ottawa to the third period with a 6-2 lead.
New York cut the deficit with goals from P.A. Parenteau and Milan Jurcina but took a couple of minor penalties late, stalling the comeback bid.
Nathan Lawson was pulled after allowing four goals on 19 shots and Kevin Poulin made 16 saves in relief.
