Islanders 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT)
Blake Comeau scored with 58 seconds left in overtime to give the New York Islanders a 4-3 home victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
Comeau redirected a booming shot from the blue line by teammate Radek Martinek over the right shoulder of Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer to seal the win for the Islanders.
The Leafs (29-28-10) moved within four points of the Buffalo Sabres for the eighth and final playoff position in the Eastern Conference. Toronto is in 10th place with 68 points, three behind ninth-place Carolina.
The Islanders (26-32-10) remain 10 points out of a playoff spot with 62 points.
After a scoreless first period, Islanders center Zenon Konopka opened the scoring at 2:15 of the second period, but Leafs defenseman Keith Aulie tied the game 34 seconds later.
Isles forward Frans Nielsen and Leafs forward Tim Brent scored later as the teams finished the second period tied 2-2.
Michael Grabner restored New York's lead at 8:40 of the third period before Toronto winger Nikolai Kulemin tied the score at 9:48.
Reimer stopped 36 shots for Toronto while Al Montoya made 24 saves for New York.
