Kings 2, Red Wings 1

All-Star Anze Kopitar and captain Dustin Brown scored nearly seven minutes apart in the second period as the visiting Los Angeles Kings rallied to a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.

Jonathan Quick made 29 saves and Justin Williams added an assist in his third straight game for the Kings, who bounced back from a pair of losses.

The Red Wings opened the scoring 5:57 into the first period after Darren Helm slapped a shot from the right faceoff circle which squeezed between the pads of Quick for his 10th goal of the season.

Los Angeles tied it at the 7:50 mark of the second period when Dustin Penner took a weak shot from the left boards that skipped off goaltender Jimmy Howard to Kopitar, who tapped it in from the doorstep for his 21st goal of the campaign.

The Kings took the lead on the power play with 5:17 left in the second. Brown deflected a shot by Alexei Ponikarovsky, sending it up over Howard’s left shoulder and into the net for his 22nd goal of the season.

Howard finished with 24 saves for the Red Wings, who have dropped four straight.
