Flyers 3, Maple Leafs 2
All-Star Claude Giroux collected a goal and an assist and Brian Boucher turned aside 27 shots as the Philadelphia Flyers skated to a 3-2 road triumph over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.
Defenseman Andrej Meszaros and Darroll Powe also tallied for first-place Philadelphia (42-19-6), which leads the Washington Capitals (38-20-10) and Pittsburgh Penguins (39-21-8) by four points in the Eastern Conference standings.
After Meszaros opened the scoring with a power-play goal just 4:55 into the first period, Powe doubled the advantage with a sharp-angle tally midway through the second.
Mikhail Grabovski put Toronto on the scoreboard nearly two minutes later after defenseman Dion Phaneuf's blast caromed off his face shield and past Boucher. Giroux regained the two-goal cushion just over three minutes later with his 22nd goal of the season.
Boucher permitted another tally to former Flyer Joffrey Lupul at 7:56 of the third period, but kept the Maple Leafs at bay to snap a personal two-game losing skid.
Rookie James Reimer finished with 30 saves for Toronto (29-29-10), which has dropped its last three contests after posting a 6-0-3 mark.
