Canucks 5, Sharks 4 (SO)
Alex Burrows scored in the second round for the lone goal in the shootout as the visiting Vancouver Canucks escaped with a 5-4 triumph over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.
Cory Schneider made 44 saves and Daniel Sedin recorded a goal and an assist for the Canucks (44-16-9), who picked up their fourth straight win and increased their lead in the Western Conference to 11 points over the Detroit Red Wings (39-20-8).
A wild finish to the third period included three goals in the final 2:13 - the last coming after Burrows was called for a holding the stick penalty to give the Sharks a power play in the final seconds.
An extra attacker made it 6-on-4 and Ryane Clowe made Vancouver pay by taking a feed from captain Joe Thornton and slapping it past Schneider from just in front of the crease with 21 seconds left.
The Canucks held a 3-2 lead through most of the third until Torrey Mitchell skated down the center of the ice, weaved around four defenders and beat Schneider to level the contest with 2:13 remaining.
Daniel Sedin gave Vancouver the lead again with a power-play goal 24 seconds later - his 35th tally of the season.
Antti Niemi finished with 24 saves for the Sharks.
