Tyler Ennis tallied twice and defenseman Mike Weber set up three goals as the Buffalo Sabres scored three times in the second period en route to a 6-4 home victory over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.
Paul Gaustad, Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek collected a goal and an assist apiece and Nathan Gerbe also tallied for Buffalo (34-27-8), which moved into a tie for seventh place with the New York Rangers (36-30-4) in the Eastern Conference standings. The Sabres have also won five of the six meetings against the Northeast Division-rival Senators this season.
Tim Connolly and defenseman Andrej Sekera notched a pair of assists apiece and Jhonas Enroth made 34 saves to improve to 5-2-1 on the season while backing up reigning Vezina Trophy winner Ryan Miller.
After both teams scored twice in the first period, Ennis and Gaustad tallied 33 seconds apart to give Buffalo a quick 4-2 lead in the second. Ennis now has four goals and four assists in his last seven contests.
Gerbe then answered Spezza's second goal of the night nearly five minutes later with his ninth of the season.
All-Star defenseman Erik Karlsson scored and rookie Colin Greening netted his second goal of the season for Ottawa (25-35-9), which saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.
Craig Anderson permitted four goals on 17 shots before being relieved by Curtis McElhinney, who finished with 14 saves.
