Capitals 4, Canadiens 2
Rookie Marcus Johansson recorded his second two-goal performance of the season and Mike Knuble scored a late power-play tally as the Washington Capitals extended their winning streak to nine games Tuesday with a 4-2 road triumph over the Montreal Canadiens.
Brooks Laich also scored and rookie Braden Holtby made 24 saves while also notching an assist for the Southeast Division-leading Capitals, who kicked off their season-high six-game road trip with their 11th win in 12 games. Washington also has captured six straight away from home.
Travis Moen and Andrei Kostitsyn tallied while All-Star Carey Price stopped 37 shots for Montreal, which had won six of seven.
Johansson snapped a 2-2 tie when he beat Price with a backhander at 6:43 of the third period. Knuble added insurance with 3:07 remaining, one-timing a cross-slot pass from Marco Sturm past Price from the left faceoff circle.
Johansson put Washington ahead just 86 seconds into the game when he converted a power-play opportunity to end his 10-game goalless drought. The lead lasted only 20 seconds as Moen beat Holtby for his fifth tally of the season and second in as many games.
Laich put the Capitals back in front with 6:37 remaining in the first, but Kostitsyn scored his 17th goal 3 1/2 minutes into the second to forge a 2-2 tie.
