Sharks 6, Stars 3

Joe Thornton and Dany Heatley each scored a pair of goals and Ryan Clowe added his 23rd tally as the visiting San Jose Sharks used a huge third period to take out the Dallas Stars, 6-3, on Tuesday.

Joe Pavelski recored four assists and Torrey Mitchell tallied the game-winner for the Sharks (40-23-8), who snapped a three-game slide and maintained their grip on third place in the Western Conference.

Kari Lehtonen made 33 saves for the Stars (37-25-8), who let a 2-0 lead slip away but remained in seventh place in the West with 82 points.

San Jose scored the go-ahead goal at the 1:51 mark of the third when Pavelski forced a turnover and hit a streaking Clowe, who wristed it from the slot past Lehtonen’s left pad.

The Sharks made it 4-2 less than two minutes later when Pavelski found Mitchell in the slot for his sixth tally.

Dallas cut it to 4-3 when Jamie Benn’s 20th goal came on the power play at the 8:11 mark of the third period. But the Sharks put it away with a pair of empty-net shorthanded tallies from Thornton and Heatley in the final 1:08.
