Thrashers 4, Flyers 3 (SO)

Rob Schremp and Blake Wheeler scored in the shootout as the Atlanta Thrashers recorded a 4-3 home victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.

Tim Stapleton, Bryan Little and Nik Antropov tallied in regulation, defenseman Ron Hainsey notched two assists and Ondrej Pavelec made 21 saves for the Thrashers, who improved to 4-1-1 in their last six games.

Danny Briere registered two goals and an assist, fellow All-Star Claude Giroux also scored and Brian Boucher stopped 22 shots for Philadelphia, which has lost six of its last seven meetings with Atlanta.

Schremp beat Boucher in the second round of the shootout to give the Thrashers the edge. Briere put his shot over the net and Wheeler ended the contest by firing the puck past Boucher after initially losing control.

Stapleton and Giroux traded goals in the first before Little gave the Thrashers a 2-1 edge at 4:35 of the second with his 15th tally of the season and first in 17 games.

After Briere scored with 5 1/2 minutes remaining in the second period to knot the game, Antropov gave Atlanta a 3-2 advantage at 17:52. But Briere jammed the puck past Pavelec with 88 seconds to play in the third to forge another tie and complete his fourth two-goal effort of the season.
