Canadiens 3, Lightning 2 (SO)

Michael Cammalleri and Nigel Dawes scored in the shootout to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 win over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.

Andrei Kostitsyn and Brian Gionta scored in regulation and Carey Price made 35 saves for the Canadiens (39-25-7), who pulled within three points of Tampa Bay for fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

Teddy Purcell and Simon Gagne had power-play goals and Martin St. Louis had a pair of assists for the Lightning (39-22-10). Dwayne Roloson turned aside 27 shots for Tampa Bay.

Cammalleri's tally in the fourth round of the shootout proved to be the winner before Price stopped Purcell's attempt to end it.

Gionta put Montreal in front with a shorthanded goal at the 3:58 mark of the third period. It was the 12th shorthanded goal allowed by Tampa Bay, tying Buffalo and Dallas for the most in the league.

The Lightning drew even 5 1/2 minutes later on Gagne's power-play tally at 9:29.
