Maple Leafs 5, Bruins 2
Nazem Kadri scored his first career NHL goal and the Toronto Maple Leafs relied on offense from several unlikely sources in a 5-2 win over the visiting Boston Bruins on Saturday.
Kadri, Toronto's first-round pick in the 2009 draft, beat Bruins netminder Tim Thomas at 12:26 of the first period to put the Leafs out in front 2-1. The 20-year-old had six points in 19 games with Toronto earlier in the season before being sent back to the American Hockey League.
Luke Schenn, Joey Crabb, Mike Brown and Keith Aulie added goals for the Maple Leafs, who remained four points back of Buffalo for eighth spot in the East after the Sabres obliterated Atlanta 8-2. None of the Toronto scorers has more than four goals this season.
Adam McQuaid's second goal of the campaign and Daniel Paille's third of the year provided the lone offense for the Bruins, who have dropped six of seven. Thomas was pulled after allowing four goals on 22 shots, and Tuukka Rask stopped six of seven in relief.
James Reimer was sensational in goal for Toronto, making 35 saves to improve to 15-7-4.
Bruins defenseman Tomas Kaberle was given a warm reception in his first game at Air Canada Centre since being dealt by the Maple Leafs at the trade deadline. He finished without a point and was a minus-one on the night.
