Predators 3, Red Wings 1

Rookie defenseman Jonathon Blum scored a power-play goal to snap a tie just over eight minutes into the third period as the Nashville Predators skated to a 3-1 home triumph over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday in a battle of Central Division rivals.

Rookie Blake Geoffrion netted his third goal of the season and Patric Hornqvist notched a pair of assists for Nashville (37-25-10), which moved past the idle Calgary Flames (37-27-9) and into a tie with the Chicago Blackhawks (38-25-8) for seventh place in the Western Conference standings.

Pekka Rinne turned aside 39 shots to improve to 8-2-2 in his career against the Red Wings.

With Henrik Zetterberg in the penalty box on a tripping penalty, defenseman Jonathan Ericsson blocked Hornqvist's shot. Blum collected the loose puck and beat Jimmy Howard at 8:12 of the third period for his third goal of the season.

David Legwand provided some insurance by netting his 13th goal of the season with 29 seconds remaining to seal Nashville's fourth win in five games.

Daniel Cleary netted a power-play goal for his first tally since Feb. 28 and Howard finished with 36 saves for Detroit (43-21-8), which saw its four-game winning streak come to an end.
