Coyotes 3, Blue Jackets 0

Defenseman Michal Rozsival and Derek Morris scored second-period goals and Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves for his seventh shutout of the season as the Phoenix Coyotes posted a 3-0 home triumph over the fading Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.

Mikkel Boedker also tallied for the Coyotes, who have won seven of their last eight games overall and nine of 12 at home.

After a scoreless first period, Rozsival gave Bryzgalov all the offensive support he needed at 3:51 of the second when he converted a cross-ice pass from Vernon Fiddler during a power play. Morris doubled the lead with 76 seconds remaining in the session, grabbing a loose puck on the doorstep and sliding it around a sprawled Mathieu Garon.

Boedker put the finishing touches on the win with five minutes to play in the game.

Bryzgalov stopped eight shots in the first period, nine in the second and 11 in the third for his 23rd career shutout. It was his 21st blanking as a member of the Coyotes, tying Nikolai Khabibulin for the franchise lead.

Garon made 20 saves for Columbus, which went 1-2-1 on its four-game road trip and has lost 12 of its last 14 contests.
