Ducks 5, Avalanche 4
Ageless wonder Teemu Selanne recorded his 22nd career hat trick and had two assists as the host Anaheim Ducks erased an early deficit to defeat the Colorado Avalanche 5-4 on Monday.
Selanne, 40, scored on a penalty shot, at even strength and on the power play at 15:11 of the third period to make it 5-3 as the Ducks (43-28-5) remained seventh in the Western Conference, one point ahead of Chicago.
Cam Fowler and Jason Blake also had goals, and Ray Emery made 31 saves to improve to 5-0-0 for the Ducks. Saku Koivu and Lubomir Visnovsky registered two assists apiece.
Paul Stastny had the game's final goal with 42 seconds left, and David Jones, Ryan O'Reilly and Matt Duchene also scored for Colorado (28-39-8), which is 3-21-2 in its last 26 games and 2-13-1 in its last 16.
Fowler broke a 3-3 tie with a power-play goal at 2:49 of the third as the Ducks have won six of their last seven games and improved to 11-3-0 in their last 14.
Selanne's second goal came at 9:01 of the second period and broke a 2-2 tie. His penalty shot occurred at 47 seconds of the second period after Avalanche defenseman John-Michael Liles covered the puck in the crease, and cut the Avalanche lead to 2-1.
Colorado stunned Anaheim with goals by O'Reilly and Duchene 1:43 apart to take a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Anaheim's Corey Perry, who leads the NHL with 44 goals, had his five-game goal streak stopped. Perry had eight goals during the streak.
Visnovsky leads NHL defensemen with 63 points. Fowler also registered an assist, and leads rookie defensemen with 36 points.
Selanne moved into a tie with Mike Gartner for 29th on the all-time points list with 1,335. His 634 goals are six behind Dave Andreychuk, who is 13th all-time.
