Oilers 4, Canucks 1
Defenseman Kurtis Foster and rookies Jordan Eberle and Linus Omark collected a goal and an assist apiece as the cellar-dwelling Edmonton Oilers snapped an 11-game losing skid with a 4-1 road triumph over the Presidents' Trophy-winning Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
Devan Dubnyk turned aside 40 shots and rookie Magnus Paajarvi also scored for Edmonton (24-43-11), which won for the first time since posting a 5-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on March 5. Since that time, the lowly Oilers have limped to an 0-8-3 mark.
Even with the win on Saturday, Edmonton still trails the struggling Florida Panthers (29-37-12) and Ottawa Senators (30-38-10) by 11 points to avoid the distinction of occupying the NHL's basement.
After Foster opened the scoring with a power-play goal late in the first period, Eberle and Omark tallied seven minutes apart in the second to allow Edmonton to forge a 3-0 lead.
Dubnyk permitted Alex Burrows' 25th goal of the season late in the second period, but closed the door from there to avenge a narrow 2-1 loss to the Canucks on Dec. 12.
Cory Schneider finished with 30 saves for Vancouver (52-18-9), which fell for just the second time in 14 games.
