Panthers 1, Capitals 0

Bill Thomas scored late in the third period and Tomas Vokoun made 28 saves for his sixth shutout of the season as the Florida Panthers ended their 10-game losing streak Saturday with a 1-0 home triumph over the Eastern Conference-champion Washington Capitals in the regular-season finale for both clubs.

Patrick Rissmiller and Tim Kennedy each recorded an assist for the Panthers, who also snapped a three-game skid at home but scored fewer than three goals for the 10th consecutive time.

Michal Neuvirth stopped 22 shots for Washington, which had its four-game winning streak halted and was shut out for the 11th time in 2010-11. The Capitals will open the playoffs against the New York Rangers next week.

Following a faceoff in the offensive zone, Rissmiller gained possession of the puck and dished it to Thomas. The 27-year-old batted it out of mid-air and past Neuvirth with 6:05 remaining to snap the scoreless tie.

Making his first start since March 27 due to injury, Vokoun turned aside nine shots in the first period, eight in the second and 11 in the third en route to his 44th career shutout.
