Lightning 3, Sabres 0

Marty St. Louis had a goal and an assist, and Mathieu Garon earned his 20th career shutout as the Tampa Bay Lightning blanked the visiting Buffalo Sabres 3-0 on Saturday.

Garon, signed as a free agent in the offseason, made 21 saves as the Lightning (3-3-2) won their second straight following a five-game losing streak. Tampa Bay has allowed one goal and 38 shots combined the last two games.

Defenseman Pavel Kubina netted his first goal of the season at 4:51 of the second, hammering a shot from the right point through a crowd and past Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller. Steven Stamkos and Teddy Purcell, who has four points in three games since being a healthy scratch, had the assists.

Vincent Lecavalier set up St. Louis, who was wide open in front after a Buffalo turnover, at 8:30 of the third. Victor Hedman added an empty-net goal with 1:27 left.

Buffalo (5-2) had won the first three games on its four-game road trip. The teams will meet again Tuesday in Buffalo.

Tampa Bay’s Ryan Malone and Buffalo’s Brad Boyes each played their 500th career game.

Sabres forward Tyler Ennis played just 35 seconds before leaving the game with a lower-body injury.
