Devils 4, Flyers 3 (SO)

Patrik Elias scored in the third round of the shootout and Johan Hedberg denied two attempts in the extra session as the New Jersey Devils skated to a 4-3 road triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday in a battle of Atlantic Division rivals.

Rookie Adam Henrique netted his first career goal and also set up captain Zach Parise for his team-tying fifth tally for New Jersey, which snapped a three-game losing skid.

David Clarkson leveled the contest at 3-3 with 6:35 remaining in the third after taking advantage of defenseman Matt Carle's giveaway in his own zone. Clarkson then backhanded the puck past Sergei Bobrovsky for his fourth goal of the season.

After a scoreless overtime, Parise and Danny Briere exchanged shootout goals before Elias backhanded the puck past Bobrovsky to win the game.

Hedberg won his third in a row against the Flyers after stopping 20 shots.

Max Talbot converted a penalty shot, Claude Giroux netted his team-leading eighth goal and rookie Zac Rinaldo recorded his first career NHL tally for Philadelphia. With the loss, the Flyers were denied recording their second three-game winning streak of the season.

After blocking a shot, Talbot skated in on a breakaway before being taken down by defenseman Mark Fayne. On the ensuing penalty shot, Talbot beat Hedberg at 2:37 of the third period.
