Flames 4, Avalanche 3

Lee Stempniak collected a goal and an assist as the Calgary Flames recorded their eighth straight victory over the Colorado Avalanche by holding on for a 4-3 road triumph on Saturday.

Captain Jarome Iginla and Curtis Glencross netted their respective fifth goals of the season and Paul Byron also scored during the three-goal first period for Calgary, which registered just four tallies in its previous four games.

After assisting on Byron's first goal of the season just 2:06 into the first period, Stempniak secured his first multi-point game of the campaign midway through the second by backhanding the puck past Semyon Varlamov to give the Flames a 4-0 advantage.

The offensive explosion proved to be just enough for Miikka Kiprusoff, who continued his dominance at the Pepsi Center. The 35-year-old Finn, who turned aside 36 shots on Saturday, has yielded just nine goals in his last six outings in Denver.

Milan Hejduk scored for the third straight game and Matt Duchene and David Jones tallied in the third period, but Colorado failed to net the equalizer and fell to 2-6-0 at home this season.

Varlamov finished with 16 saves to remain winless in November (0-4-1).
