Kings 2, Ducks 1 (SO)

Justin Williams scored the decisive goal in the seventh round of the shootout as the Los Angeles Kings posted a 2-1 victory over the visiting Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday in the opener of a home-and-home series.

Mike Richards netted a power-play tally and Jonathan Quick made 23 saves for the Kings, who completed a 3-1-0 homestand.

Los Angeles' Jarret Stoll and Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf scored in the third round of the sudden-death format, but neither team was able to break through again until Williams beat Jonas Hiller high to the glove side. Quick denied Kurtis Foster on the final opportunity for the Ducks, who have lost six straight road games and eight of nine overall.

Teemu Selanne scored and Hiller remained winless in five career decisions at Los Angeles despite stopping 36 shots for Anaheim, which hosts the Kings on Thursday.

After a scoreless first period, Richards converted a 5-on-3 opportunity less than eight minutes into the second to give the Kings the lead. Jack Johnson's shot from the top of the slot went wide and caromed off the end boards to Richards, who beat Hiller from the left side of the net for his fifth goal.

Anaheim pulled even with 3:25 remaining in the third as Selanne fired a shot from the left faceoff circle past Quick just nine seconds into a power play.
