Defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic recorded a goal among his career-high four points as the San Jose Sharks skated to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
Captain Joe Thornton and Brad Winchester each notched a goal and an assist while Joe Pavelski and Torrey Mitchell also scored for San Jose, which completed a 4-1-1 homestand with its fifth consecutive win against Detroit.
The Sharks are the first team to post five straight wins over the Red Wings since the Calgary Flames from November 1998-January 2000.
Niklas Kronwall and Dan Cleary scored power-play goals for the Red Wings, who fell to 0-2 on their four-game road trip.
Detroit has lost five straight games away from home for the first time since Oct. 28-Nov. 11, 1989.
Vlasic helped set up Pavelski's game-tying shorthanded goal with 12 seconds remaining in the first period and Thornton's go-ahead tally midway through the second before scoring on a wraparound at the right post with 7:12 left for a 3-1 lead.
The 24-year-old Vlasic completed the best offensive performance of his career by assisting on Mitchell's goal with 1:42 to play in the second. Vlasic doubled his point total for the season as he entered with a goal and three assists in 15 games.
Jimmy Howard allowed four goals on 21 shots over two periods for Detroit before being replaced by Ty Conklin, who made six saves in the third.
