Sabres 1, Hurricanes 0
Jhonas Enroth bounced back with 34 saves in his second career shutout as the Buffalo Sabres edged the host Carolina Hurricanes, 1-0, on Friday.
Jason Pominville got the tally on the power play with assists from Thomas Vanek and Brad Boyes. The Sabres have won six of their last eight to jump into first place in the Northeast Division.
Enroth, who has stepped into the No. 1 goaltender spot with Ryan Miller out due to a concussion, had his worst start of the season in a 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday. The 23-year old Swede bounced right back against the Hurricanes, helping kill off three penalties and stopping 14 shots in the third period alone.
Buffalo got the lone goal with 6:56 left in the first. On the power play thanks to a slashing penalty on Jussi Jokinen, Boyes to the puck into the Carolina zone and passed it behind the net to Vanek, who tried to hit Pominville in the slot.
The puck bounced off Hurricanes defenseman Tim Gleason’s skate and into the crease, where Pominville chipped it up over Brian Boucher’s pad for his eighth goal.
