Avalanche 3, Stars 0
Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 24 saves for his first shutout of the season while Chuck Kobasew and Paul Stastny scored goals as the Colorado Avalanche halted their three-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Dallas Stars on Friday.
Matt Duchene added an empty-net power-play tally for Colorado, which began a season-high eight-game homestand.
Giguere turned aside four shots in the first period, 11 in the second and nine in the third for his 35th career shutout and first against Dallas.
One day after being a healthy scratch, Kobasew gave Colorado a 1-0 lead when he tipped defenseman Ryan Wilson's shot from the left point past Kari Lehtonen just over six minutes into the game. The goal was the 99th of Kobasew's career.
Stastny doubled the advantage with less than 5 1/2 minutes remaining in the third by burying a rebound from the doorstep during a power play. It was Stastny's 334th career point, tying him with Mats Sundin for 10th place on the franchise list.
Lehtonen made 42 saves for Dallas, which has been shut out in consecutive games and has scored only three goals during its four-game losing streak. The Stars have dropped seven of their last nine visits to Colorado.
