Blue Jackets 4, Predators 3 (OT)
Defenseman James Wisniewski scored his first goal of the season 2:43 into overtime as the Columbus Blue Jackets recorded a 4-3 victory over the host Nashville Predators on Saturday.
Jeff Carter, Vinny Prospal and R.J. Umberger scored and Curtis Sanford made 27 saves in his first NHL win since Dec. 28, 2008, when he was with the Vancouver Canucks.
The Blue Jackets snapped a 17-game losing streak in Nashville and have now collected at least one point in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Columbus was carrying a 3-2 lead after Umberger scored the go-ahead goal on the power play at the 1:45 mark of the third. Sanford stymied the Predators until Nick Spaling recorded his second goal with 5:36 left in the game, knotting it up.
Wisniewski got the Blue Jackets back in the win column, ripping a slap shot past Pekka Rinne for the game-winner in overtime.
Things started off aggressively when Jordin Tootoo and Derek Dorsett got into it just three seconds into the first period, drawing fighting majors.
Brian McGrattan and Jared Boll squared off 59 seconds later and the teams totaled 38 penalty minutes in the first period alone.
