Sabres 2, Panthers 1 (OT)
Jason Pominville scored on a breakaway at 2:19 of overtime, lifting the Buffalo Sabres to a 2-1 win over the visiting Florida Panthers on Friday night.
Pominville took a pass from Paul Szczechura and went in alone before beating Panthers goaltender Scott Clemmensen as the Sabres won for just their second time in their last eight home games.
Sabres netminder Ryan Miller turned aside 22 shots to deny the Panthers their first four-game winning streak since 2007.
Derek Roy also scored for Buffalo, which improved to 6-8-2 at First Niagara Center this season.
Roy's first goal in 11 games put the Sabres ahead at the 17:50 mark of the opening period. He slipped behind the defense and wristed a shot past Clemmensen, who lost for the first time in four starts.
Florida evened it on a 5-on-3 power play when Jason Garrison blistered a one-timer past Miller. It was his ninth tally, best among league defensemen.
The injury-riddled Sabres lost two more players when Corey Tropp and Jochen Hecht exited the game and did not return.
