Blues 1, Sharks 0
Brian Elliott made 24 saves and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored a power-play goal as the St. Louis Blues skated to a 1-0 home victory over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
David Perron and Jason Arnott each notched an assist for St. Louis, which improved to 7-1-1 in its last nine games and 11-2-3 under coach Ken Hitchcock.
Elliott turned aside four shots in the first period, nine in the second and 11 in the third as he tied Los Angeles' Jonathan Quick for the league lead with his fourth shutout of the season. Elliott entered as the NHL's leader in both goals-against average (1.56) and save percentage (.944).
The Blues gave Elliott all the offensive support he needed late in the first period. With one second remaining on their two-man advantage, Shattenkirk wristed the puck past Antti Niemi from the top of the right faceoff circle for his fourth goal.
Niemi made 18 saves for San Jose, which has lost five of seven.
