Bruins 3, Kings 0
Tuukka Rask made 40 saves in his first shutout of the season and Brad Marchand tallied twice as the Boston Bruins rolled over the visiting Los Angeles Kings, 3-0, on Tuesday.
Rich Peverley snapped a 13-game goalless drought with his fifth tally and Patrice Bergeron added a pair of assists for the Bruins, who have won back-to-back games following last week’s back-to-back losses.
The Kings fired coach Terry Murray on Monday and replaced him on an interim basis with assistant John Stevens. Los Angeles did not show much spark under new leadership, failing to score more than two goals for the ninth straight game and losing its fifth in a row.
Rask got plenty of help from the blue line, which held the Kings without a shot in a 5-on-3 power play in the second and was playing without injured captain Zdeno Chara. It was the ninth shutout of Rask’s career.
Peverley got the Bruins started with his fifth goal at the 6:32 mark of the first period. Zach Hamill, who was recently recalled by the team, set up the tally with a strong feed for his second assist.
Bergeron set up the second when he won a face off and sent it back to Marchand, who slapped it from above the right circle past Jonathan Quick for his 10th tally.
Bergeron and Marchand hooked up again in the third for Marchand’s 11th goal.
