Lightning 5, Flyers 1
Steven Stamkos recorded two goals and Mathieu Garon made 16 of his 31 saves in the first period as the Tampa Bay Lightning pulled away for a 5-1 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.
Former Flyer Steve Downie added a goal and an assist in a three-goal second period for the Lightning, who have secured points in four of their last five games.
After being outshot 17-4 in the first period, the Lightning held the Flyers to just three shots in the second.
Stamkos knocked in a rebound at 7:25 and Downie scored from a bad angle at 11:41, just five seconds after the Lightning's power play ended.
Stamkos got his second of the night after a nifty pass from Downie on the power play at 18:45 for a 4-1 lead.
Tampa Bay was down to four defensemen the last 7:28 of the second period after Eric Brewer was cut in a fight with Wayne Simmonds. Brewer came back for the third period, but blue-liner Victor Hedman left in the first with an upper-body injury and did not return.
Martin St. Louis finished with two assists for the Lightning, who were outshot 32-16. The 17 first-period shots for the Flyers were two more than they had in all of their 2-1 overtime loss Nov. 9.
