Islanders 3, Flames 1
John Tavares recorded a goal and an assist and Evgeni Nabokov made 29 saves as the New York Islanders snapped a three-game slide with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Calgary Flames on Thursday.
Andrew MacDonald added his third goal, Brian Rolston found the empty net late and P.A. Parenteau recorded a pair of assists for the Islanders, who had surrendered 12 goals in the previous three games.
Tavares gave New York the lead 3:20 into the third period, when he streaked all the way up the right boards before cutting to the middle. The 21-year old center moved the puck from the backhand to the forehand, sneaking it around Miikka Kiprusoff’s right skate for his 12th tally.
MacDonald tied it at 1-1 at the 3:04 mark of the second, taking a feed from Parenteau in the slot and going down to one knee to send a one-timer past Kiprusoff.
Former Islander Tim Jackman scored his first goal for the Flames, who had their four-game winning streak come to an end. Calgary is three games through a seven-game road trip.
Kiprusoff finished with 31 saves.
