Islanders 4, Hurricanes 3 (SO)

P.A. Parenteau and Frans Nielsen scored in the shootout as the New York Islanders rallied for a 4-3 victory over the host Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.

Kyle Okposo scored the tying goal with 90 seconds left in regulation and John Tavares had three assists for his second straight three-point game as the Islanders snapped a six-game losing streak to the Hurricanes.

Evgeni Nabokov made 37 saves and turned away Chad LaRose on the final shot of the shootout to win his third consecutive start as the Islanders won their first game of the season when trailing after two periods (1-15-2).

Matt Moulson and Nielsen netted power-play goals for the Islanders, who won their game in a row and moved out of the Eastern Conference basement, one point ahead of Carolina.

Brandon Sutter had a goal and assist and Anthony Stewart and LaRose also tallied for the Hurricanes, who dropped their second straight.

Carolina netminder Cam Ward made 33 saves and fell to 14-2-2 lifetime against the Islanders.
