Canadiens 3, Maple Leafs 1

All-Star Carey Price made 32 saves and rookie defenseman Raphael Diaz scored the game-winning goal early in the third period as the Montreal Canadiens downed the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 on Saturday night.

With the game tied at 1-1, Diaz unleashed a slapshot from the point and beat a screened Jonas Gustavsson at 3:29 of the third period. The goal was Diaz's third of the season.

Ron Wilson decided to reunite the line of Phil Kessel, Joffrey Lupul and Tim Connolly in the third period in an attempt to mount some offense, but it was too little too late.

Lars Eller beat Gustavsson from a bad angle at the side of the net to give Montreal a 3-1 edge midway through the third period.

Rene Bourque opened the scoring 18:26 into the first period after he swatted in a puck in front of the net past Gustavsson for his first goal as a member of the Canadiens.

Matthew Lombardi scored the lone goal for the Maple Leafs when he beat Price on a breakaway with five seconds remaining in the first period for his fourth tally.

Montreal was just 1-3-2 in six games prior to Saturday's win over Toronto.
