Jets 2, Lightning 1 (OT)
Kyle Wellwood scored 3:14 into overtime and goaltender Ondrej Pavelec made 30 saves to give the visiting Winnipeg Jets a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.
Blake Wheeler, who scored the other goal for the Jets, set up Wellwood on a 2-on-1 for the winner as the Jets snapped Tampa Bay’s five-game winning streak.
Winnipeg defenseman Dustin Byfuglien was back in the lineup after missing the last 16 games with a knee injury and assisted on the winning goal.
Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman tied the game 1-1 with 9:26 remaining in regulation on the nifty rush up the ice. Marty St. Louis had an assist to extend his point streak to eight games.
The Jets, who were shut out 1-0 on Oct. 29 in Tampa, scored the game’s first goal at 19:44 of the second period. Wheeler got behind the Lightning defense to knock home the rebound of Jim Slater’s shot from the left point for his 10th goal.
Pavelec made six saves in the first period and turned aside 15 in the second to keep the Lightning off the scoreboard.
It was first victory for the Winnipeg/Atlanta franchise at Tampa Bay in eight games.
