Maple Leafs 6, Oilers 3
Phil Kessel had two goals and an assist while eight other Maple Leaf skaters collected at least one point as Toronto won its third straight game by defeating the visiting Edmonton Oilers 6-3 on Monday.
Kessel scored his second of the night and 29th of the season into an empty net to cap a game which didn't have a penalty.
The Leafs - 5-0-1 in their last six games - moved ahead of the idle Ottawa Senators into seventh in the Eastern Conference.
Joffrey Lupul gave the Leafs a 5-3 lead at 16:54 of the middle frame with his 21st goal of the season. Lupul, cutting across the top of the crease, caught captain Dion Phaneuf’s point shot and dropped it to his stick before tapping the puck past a confused Devan Dubnyk.
Earlier in the second period, Kessel scored his 28th of the season and Tyler Bozak his 10th to give the Leafs a 4-2 lead.
Oilers’ defenseman Jeff Petry scored his second of the season at 13:24 to pull Edmonton to within a goal.
Jordan Eberle’s 23rd and 24th goals of the season in the first period for the Oilers bookended Clarke MacArthur’s 17th and Jake Gardiner’s second of the season for the Leafs as the first period ended 2-2.
