Ducks 3, Hurricanes 2 (OT)
All-Star Corey Perry scored at 2:14 of overtime to give the Anaheim Ducks a 3-2 home triumph over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday.
Nick Bonino and Saku Koivu also tallied while Jonas Hiller made 31 saves for Anaheim, which completed a 2-1-1 homestand. The Ducks improved to 8-1-1 in their last 10 at the Honda Center and 11-2-2 in their last 15 overall.
Perry appeared to trip Jussi Jokinen as he chased him around Carolina's net, but no call was made. The reigning Hart Trophy winner gained possession of the puck, passed it across the slot to defenseman Sheldon Brookbank and one-timed the return feed past Cam Ward for his 23rd goal.
Tuomo Ruutu gave Carolina a 1-0 lead late in the first period with a highlight-reel goal.
After being hit by Jiri Tlusty's shot from the high slot, Ruutu got off a shot of his own that Hiller stopped. The rebound popped up in the air, and Ruutu batted it past Hiller from his knees for his 17th tally of the season.
Bonino forged a tie midway through the second period, but Eric Staal put the Hurricanes back in front 3:47 into the third. Carolina's captain intercepted a pass behind the net and put a backhander past Hiller from near the left post.
The lead lasted less than two minutes as Koivu buried a rebound in the slot at 5:11 for his 10th goal.
Ward stopped 31 shots for the Hurricanes, who have earned at least one point in four straight road games (1-0-3). Ward has allowed three goals or less in each of his last 14 starts.
