Flyers 4, Maple Leafs 3
All-Star Scott Hartnell recorded a Gordie Howe hat trick and the Philadelphia Flyers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.
Sergei Bobrovsky was forced to make a couple of outstanding saves in the third period to improve to 12-5-1 on the season. The Russian stopped 24 shots in the victory.
Toronto’s Tyler Bozak scored his second goal of the second period at 18:09 to cap off a wild six-goal period. Bozak roofed his 12th of the season from the top of the crease to pull the Leafs to within a goal at 4-3.
Rookie Brayden Schenn gave the Flyers a 4-2 lead at 15:07 when he buried a rebound off Danny Briere's shot. Schenn’s sixth of the season came about a minute before All-Star Claude Giroux scored his 21st of the season.
All-Star Joffrey Lupul tied the game at 2-2 on the power play at 5:57 with his 22nd of the season.
Max Talbot tipped in his 13th of the season at 3:48 to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead after Bozak netted his first of the game for Toronto.
Hartnell celebrated his 26th goal of the season – and NHL leading 14th power-play marker - in the first period by immediately dropping the gloves with Toronto captain Dion Phaneuf.
