SENATORS 6, ISLANDERS 0: Defenseman Erik Karlsson collected two goals and two assists and fellow All-Star Jason Spezza tallied twice as visiting Ottawa breezed to a convincing victory over New York.
Craig Anderson preserved his third shutout of the season and 19th career by making 18 of his 28 saves in the third period.
Chris Phillips and Brian Lee also scored and fellow defenseman Sergei Gonchar notched a pair of assists for the Senators, who pulled to within two points of the Northeast Division-leading Boston Bruins and one point of fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
Ottawa improved to 4-0-1 in its last five contests and snapped a three-game losing skid to the Islanders.
Karlsson opened the scoring at 1:08 of the first period after taking advantage of a turnover at the blue line and blasting a sharp-angle shot past Kevin Poulin.
After Spezza extended his point streak to six games just 27 seconds later by scoring his 26th goal of the season, Karlsson struck again with 5:57 remaining in the first period. As rookie defenseman Jared Cowen's tripping penalty expired, the blue-liner snapped a shot from the slot which beat Al Montoya for his 12th goal of the campaign.
