SABRES 2, DUCKS 0: Ryan Miller turned aside all 43 shots he faced - including 20 in the third period - and Derek Roy netted a power-play goal as visiting Buffalo continued its late-season surge toward a postseason berth.
Brad Boyes scored for the first time in 22 contests and defenseman Christian Ehrhoff notched a pair of assists for the Sabres, who improved to 9-3-3 in their last 15 games. Buffalo now sits five points behind the eighth-place Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference standings.
Miller recorded his fourth shutout of the season and 26th career by defeating the Ducks for the second time this season. He made 29 saves in a 4-1 win over Anaheim on Oct. 7.
Roy opened the scoring 7:12 into the first period after collecting the puck off the end boards and beating Jonas Hiller from a sharp angle. The tally was Roy's 14th goal of the season.
Boyes doubled the advantage after tipping Ehrhoff's point shot past Hiller just as a power play was coming to an end. The tally was Boyes' fourth of the campaign and first since Dec. 31.
Hiller tied a franchise record with Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Guy Hebert by starting his 23rd consecutive game. The Swiss netminder finished with 22 saves for the Ducks, who fell to 6-3-2 in their last 11 overall and 9-2-1 in their last 12 at the Honda Center.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Anaheim is now seven points behind eighth-place Dallas in the Western Conference standings. The Stars picked up a point in their 4-3 shootout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier on Wednesday. ... Rookie C Cody Hodgson made his debut with Buffalo after being acquired from Vancouver at Monday's trade deadline. The 10th overall pick of the 2008 draft, Hodgson had four shots on goal and logged over 16 minutes of ice time. ... Roy has collected three goals and six assists during his red-hot seven-game stretch.
