Flyers 1, Capitals 0

FLYERS 1, CAPITALS 0: Ilya Bryzgalov turned aside all 34 shots he faced to make rookie Eric Wellwood's second-period tally stand up as visiting Philadelphia upended Washington.

Defensemen Pavel Kubina and Matt Carle collected assists for the Flyers, who posted back-to-back victories for the first time since Jan. 10-12. Philadelphia now sits in sole possession of fifth place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind the Atlantic Division rival Pittsburgh.

Michal Neuvirth finished with 22 saves for the Capitals, who fell to 4-20-1 this season when captain Alex Ovechkin has been held without a point.

The Flyers opened the scoring for the first time in 10 games when Kubina wristed a centering pass into the high slot. Wellwood redirected the offering past Neuvirth for his second goal in just six games this season.

Making his eighth straight start, Bryzgalov made the modest offense stand up. The Russian denied veteran Mike Knuble's breakaway attempt in the second period and preserved his third shutout of the season and 26th career with 12 saves in the third.

Ovechkin saw his playing time dip after he was on the ice for Wellwood's goal. The captain was caught out of position on the tally and had just one shift for the remainder of the second period.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Flyers Ds Kimmo Timonen and Andrej Meszaros are sidelined indefinitely with lower body injuries. ... Philadelphia has won two of the three meetings between the clubs this season.
